Kalamazoo Eagles’ Jarrett Esman, Otsego’s Shelby Weaver named Athletes of the Week

Jarrett Esman has been on an absolute tear this boys ice hockey season and his impressive play continued this past week.

Esman, a student at Parchment on the Kalamazoo Eagles hockey team, scored three goals in his team’s 7-6 overtime win over Kalamazoo United. Esman also recorded two assists.

What makes Esman’s performance even more remarkable is when and how he scored.

His first goal of the game came late in the second period that tied the game at four. With United leading 6-4 in the third, Esman scored a shorthanded goal with 9:36 remaining and the tying goal with 6:40 remaining.

Esman followed up his five-point performance with four goals and two assists in the Eagles’ 9-8 win over the Unity Knights.

With the Eagles trailing 3-2, Esman scored a goal with 39 seconds and 12 second remaining in the first period to give his team the lead. He then scored again with 8:07 left in the second period.

His final goal, which came with 2:27 remaining in the second period, gave the Eagles a 7-4 lead.

Esman’s week totaled seven goals and four assists in two games.
